Patients who were discharged, died or suffered from re-do (revision) surgery were censored from the analysis of cumulative incidence of postoperative reduced oxygenation index (<300 mm Hg) since the day of the event. Censored data are indicated in the figure by vertical ticks. An oxygenation index of <300 mm Hg on postoperative day 0 (arrival on ICU) was not judged as postoperative event. #Indicates differences in the cumulative incidence of postoperative respiratory impairment (oxygenation index <300 mm HG) between both groups at postoperative day 10 (p < 0.001).
