  1. Bacterial revertant formation was measured in triplicate by Ames test. Salmonella typhimurium (TA98, TA100, TA1535 and TA1537) were treated with 2-NF, SA, and 9-AA in the absence of S9 mix. Escherichia coli (WP2uvrA(pKM101)) strains were treated with AF2 in the absence of S9 mix. The number of revertant colonies was counted manually. *When the result in experimental group was at least twice higher than that in negative control, it was considered to be positive.
