Effect of surface topography on bacterial upstream twitching at wall shear stress of 0.15 Pa: (a) Flat surface; (b) Groove width is 44 µm; (c) Groove width is 19 µm. It is seen that the bacteria have a chaotic motion when the groove width is smaller; (d) Probability of bacterial residency time at difference places inside the groove; for groove width is either 44 or19 µm. The results indicate that bacteria are likely to accumulate near downstream sides of groove walls.
