From: Intercomparison of in-situ aircraft and satellite aerosol measurements in the stratosphere

Aerosol backscattering versus altitude above the tropopause calculated from aerosol samples (IAGOS-CARIBIC) and directly measured by lidar (CALIOP). The solid lines are the monthly mean values for CALIOP and each dot is an individual sample from IAGOS-CARIBIC. Blue, vermillion and green lines and marks indicate data for the first, second and third months of a season, respectively. The data were taken between 30°N and 70°N. The CALIOP data were averaged over all longitudes and in the same latitude and altitude (9.5 to 12 km) intervals as IAGOS-CARIBIC. CALIOP data have been cloud filtered.
