Each of the 341 product footprints are represented as three dots, indicating the product’s CI (x-axis) versus the 3 portions of upstream, direct operations, and downstream emissions (y-axis). Dashed lines show the three respective linear regressions between ln(CI) and the portion of total emissions (using the same color code). Excluded from this analysis are cradle-to-gate footprints (Methods) whose downstream emissions are not counted (i.e., 0% of total) and which are therefore expected to have systematically lower CI.
