Mutant mouse models of the BBSome have disorganized and reduced number of ribbon synapses as early as P15. P15-16 retinas from Bbs2−/−, Bbs7−/−, Bbs4−/−, Bbs1M390R/M390R and their respective control littermates were probed with an anti-CtBP2/RIBEYE antibody and biotinylated-PNA to visualize ribbon synapses in the outer plexiform layer. The images are oriented such that the outer nuclear layer is above, and the inner nuclear layer is below the ribbon synapses.
