Schematic presentation of CC parameters Δε, τ and α behavior with variation of the balance between bulk and bound water in any aqueous solution or suspension. An increase in Δε indicates that water is released from its bound state and moves to the bulk state. An increase in τ (red shift) suggests that the type of interaction between solvent and solute has a dipole-dipole character, whereas a decrease in τ (blue shift) means that the solute/solvent interaction has an ion-dipole character. A decrease in α indicates that the broadening is wider and the rate of exchange between the hydrated shell and bulk water is higher. An increase in α suggests that the rate of interaction with the solute is decreased.
