EEG power spectra is shown by signal power by frequency in each vigilance state (columns) and time period of the 24-h cycle (rows). Like the M. musculus strains, A. cahirinus shows characteristic delta and theta rhythms during NREM and REM sleep. In general, the theta rhythm seen in A. cahirinus is of a higher mean frequency and more prominent than in the Lab M. musculus strains. A strong theta component can also be seen in both Wake and NREM states, which is diminished or absent in M. musculus.
