Immunohistological study of islet allografts harvested from mice in the control and mitomycin C (MMC) groups at 7 days after transplantation. Islet allografts in the recipient livers were stained with haematoxylin–eosin and antibodies specific for insulin, CD3, CD4 and CD8 (A). CD4+ and CD8+ cells surrounding and infiltrating the allograft were counted (two sections per animal, 4 animals) and those numbers per islet area were compared between the control and MMC groups (p < 0.005 and p < 0.001, respectively, n = 8) (B).
