Transport and metabolism of proguanil via two simultaneously transfected genes. Overexpression of OCT1 facilitates the uptake of the anti-malarial prodrug proguanil, while overexpression of CYP2C19 catalyzes the metabolism of proguanil to cycloguanil. Accumulation of cycloguanil was only present in cells overexpressing OCT1 as well as CYP2C19. Results of n = 3 independent experiments are shown.
