The skull of a yearling fish in lateral view (FAU.DGS.ND.725.32.T) is shown as (A) a tricolor plot (red = phosphorus; blue = silicon; green = aluminium) and (B) a heat map for phosphorus, showing high definition of well ossified articulated skull elements. The skull of a sub-yearling polyodontid (FAU.DGS.ND.711.14.T) exhibits underdeveloped osseous anatomy characteristic of an earlier ontogenetic stage (C), however still possesses well-recognizable rostral elements (D).
