Ectopic expression of FAK attenuates ApxI-induced cytotoxicity in pLFA-1-transfected FAK-deficient MEFs. (a) FAK-deficient MEFs were transfected with plasmids expressing porcine LFA-1 (pLFA-1), in combination with a plasmid encoding FAK (pLFA-1 + FAK) or the corresponding empty vectors (Vector) for 24 h. The transfected cells were incubated with ApxI for 5 h. The culture supernatants were collected and analyzed using the LDH release assay. Data are from three independent experiments of triplicate determinants. *p < 0.05. (b) FAK-deficient MEFs were transfected with plasmids expressing porcine LFA-1 (pLFA-1) alone, in combination with a plasmid encoding FAK (pLFA-1 + FAK), or the corresponding empty vectors (Vector). Levels of pCD11a, pCD18, and p-FAKY397 were examined using Western blot analyses. Immunoblots were also probed with an anti-β-actin antibody as the loading control.
