Graphical summarization of transcriptional repression of neurosensory genes during lens differentiation by S100A4. Absence of S100A4, a calcium binding protein expressed discretely in lens fibers within the mouse eye induces aberrant differentiation programs of non-lineage photoreceptor, Müller glia and olfactory sensory neurons in association with changes in histone-3 lysine (H3K) trimethylation markings, indicating a repressive role for S100A4 in suppressing expression of sensory neuron genes during lens differentiation.
