Endotoxin neutralization caused by antimicrobial peptides. Endotoxin monomers form micelles or aggregates with a size between 100 and 1000 nm (A). Cationic antimicrobial peptides and proteins (B), which are part of the innate immune system, bind the endotoxin monomers and neutralize their inflammatory effect (C). The neutralized LPS are no longer detectable in the LAL test.
