Example of the annotation process on a typical whole-slide image. Red, green, and yellow highlights indicate areas that were annotated and from which labeled patches were taken. Squamous tissue (black arrow), non-dysplastic Barrett’s with Goblet cells (black arrowhead), and dysplastic tissue with crowding and hyperchromasia (lower zoomed section) were all present within the same whole-slide image, demonstrating the value of annotation to avoid model confusion.
