From: Liquiñe-Ofqui’s fast slipping intra-volcanic arc crustal faulting above the subducted Chile Ridge
At top is an enriched Morb normalized spider diagram with samples from VMG. Intermediate samples with MgO contents between 2 and 4 of Hudson, Macá and Cay volcanoes were selected for comparison between the volcanoes. Note the distinct signature of the VMG versus the nearby other major stratovolcanoes33,34. At bottom is an oblique helicopter photo taken in January 2016 of the VMG during field reconnaissance. Please note the mafic nature of the stratified volcanic rocks here (consistent with the spider plot above) and flow bands that formed during VMG eruptions. Field photograph by R. Hermanns.
