Plots also display mean and median values, interquartile range and kernel density estimation indicated by the shape of the violin (Shannon alpha diversity values for each habitat, divided into days and sites, are in Supplementary Materials, Appendix C, Table S1). We also tested for mean alpha diversity differences between dates and sites, showing that sampling dates and individual sites were generally not a factor in alpha diversity variation with nearly 90% of comparisons showing non-significant results (Appendix C, Table S2).
