Air density gradient visualization of a volunteer’s cough with HFNC at 60 L/min taken from the schlieren images (left) and the associated numerical simulations (right): (a) at t = 65 ms; (b) at t = 150 ms; (c) at t = 190 ms. A good correlation is observed between the experiment and the simulation for the front and the bottom part of the jet. Leaks coming from the nose can explain the differences observed for the upper part of the jet.
