The cross indicates a breakpoint estimated by segmented regression, the horizontal bar above the x-axis indicates the 95% confidence interval of breakpoint location in which the weaning event (occurred at the age of 90 days) is included. Slopes of regression below and above the breakpoint differed significantly (F(1,57) = 6.25, p = 0.015; linear mixed modelling without a breakpoint yielded a significantly worse fit (model without breakpoints AIC = 32.14; model with breakpoints AIC = 11.22; ∆AICc = 19.92, p < 0.0001).
