Effect of pH on denitrification enzymes and assimilatory nitrate reductase in P. denitrificans. Cells were grown under anaerobic conditions with nitrate (30 mM) as nitrogen and energy source at the indicated pHs. Enzymic activities of respiratory (Nar) and assimilatory (Nas) nitrate reductases, nitrite reductase (NirS) and nitrous oxide reductase (NosZ) were determined as described in “Materials and Methods”. Error bars correspond to data from three independent replicates (n = 3).
