Schematic illustration of the JE composed of single-colored areas suggested by the present results. The JE stem cells were located at the external basal cell layer and supplied JE cells. The JE and OGE were derived from individual stem cells. It was suggested that the JE around the first molar comprised multiple single-colored areas and was maintained by region-specific stem cells.
