Pirfenidone seems to attach more strongly at the Ala146 residue in the conserved region and near active binding sites; (C) Pirfenidone docking site with furin. Pirfenidone has a much higher binding affinity for the human model of furin than the mouse model. Pirfenidone appears to bind at the catalytic domain at the Val 290 residue.
