  1. §COVID-19 Reproduction rate (Re) figures are the median values of the quarter within the region of interest, either the West or the East.
  2. A Mann–Whitney U test was used to test for differences between the West and the East. We had also performed a non-parametric test for trend across quarters (data not shown): p-values were < 0.001 for the World, the West and the East for all response variables expect for stringency index in the East (p-value = 0.007).
