On the top panel (A), we show the raw MAP reconstruction with different Nadaraya-Watson smoothing levels (red-blue-yellow lines) along with the WMHPs and HSs. On the bottom panel (B), reading from past to present (from right to left), the red and blue colors indicate the statistically significant precipitation increases and decreases, respectively. The vertical axis represents the level of smoothing in logarithmic units and the horizontal red-blue-yellow lines the smoothing levels as in the upper panel. Dark grey areas represent no significant changes and light grey areas represent where the sampling resolution is too low.
