Reflected light photomicrograph and SEM images of broken and regrown Sb–c elements of D. obliquicostatus from the same stratigraphic interval as sampled in this study. All scale bars at 100 μm and all images are scaled to the same size. The breaks are almost always at the point of maximum curvature and do not appear to be preferentially related to the extent of white matter.
