Molecularly targeted photothermal ablation (MTPA) of orthotopic HCC tumors. Mice with orthotopic tumors (A) were administered 0.5 mg/kg ICG via tail vein. MTPA was performed 6 h following injection. Near infrared imaging during the intervention demonstrated excellent target-to-background ratios (B, C). Temperature monitoring was performed with real-time thermal imaging. Hyperthermia up to ablative temperatures were readily achievable, and thermal doses could be tuned by adjusting the illuminating laser power (D). MTPA resulted in targeted necrosis within the orthotopic tumor (E).
