From: Synaptic inputs to displaced intrinsically-photosensitive ganglion cells in macaque retina

Amacrine cell axon 5560 from the inferior volume was reconstructed. Note its varicose axon and its terminals in the outermost stratum of the inner plexiform layer, S1 (red). It made 12 synapses (●) onto the soma and primary dendrites of ipRGC 1178 (grey). Based on its morphology, it was tentatively identified as an axon of a dopaminergic amacrine cell. The inset shows a typical synapse (▲) from 5560 onto 1178.
