Fluorescent competition assay for glycopeptide binding to S. aureus. Exponentially growing bacterial cells were saturated with fluorescent vancomycin (left panel) or teicoplanin (right panel). Following addition of d-Ala-d-Ala or the glycopeptide compounds, the release of fluorescent vancomycin or teicoplanin was measured by Tecan Infinite 200Proreader.
