A 20-year-old male was successfully treated by the MSR technique. (a) The patient suffered from a severe open distal tibial fracture; (b) and (c) The distal tibial bone defects were observed after radical debridement. Thus, acute shortening and temporary fixation were performed; (dg) The MSR technique was used to restore limb length; (h) and (i) Half a year after removing the lengthening frame, the consolidation of the regenerate segment was good. MSR: modified shortening and re-lengthening.
