Simplified lithostratigraphic columns illustrating the four outcrops described and discussed in the present study. In these outcrops, a lower Ries seismite horizon capped with distal Ries ejecta (or equivalent) and an upper Steinheim seismite horizon (or equivalent) are clearly associated by appearance and altitude above the sea-level. Note that the outcrop Ziemetshausen with significant divergent altitude is situated ~ 50 km north of the other three outcrops.
