Virus-negative neonate controls have a different molecular profile in their airways compared to the pre-infected and infected neonates. The figure shows protein quantities of filaggrin, VEGF, MIP-1α/CCL3, MIP-1β/CCL4, RANTES/CCL5, HIF-1α, IL-17A, IL-1β, and MCP-1 in samples from virus-negative controls (n = 21) or negative pre-infection (n = 19), viral positive (n = 19), and negative post-infection samples from virus-positive premature neonates (n = 19) measured by ELISA or Luminex technology. Inter-group analysis was performed using Kruskal–Wallis test with multiple comparisons followed by Dunn’s uncorrected post-test. Bar graphs represent median and interquartile ranges. *P < 0.05; **P < 0.01 and ***P < 0.001.
