Experimental paradigms. (a) The naturalistic experiment. Participants were asked to interact with objects necessary for preparing and eating breakfast, trying to reproduce the actions they usually perform in the kitchen. Participants were seated and asked to set the table, mimic the act of cooking and preparing breakfast, eat the meal and finally clean and arrange the table to its initial state. (b) Canonical experiment. A single participant was asked to execute canonical movements (not entailing contact with the objects). Four different stereotyped movements were performed: a sequence of hand opening-closure followed by a pinch movement (task 1), or hand opening-closure movement (task 2) and pinch movement (task 3) in isolation. The movements were repeated 8 times for 2Â s.
