From: Propionic acid induces alterations in mitochondrial morphology and dynamics in SH-SY5Y cells

Figure 3

Propionic acid (PPA) induces a transcriptional downregulation of genes involved in mitochondrial dynamics. SH-SY5Y cells were treated with 3 and 5 mM PPA for 24 h. Relative quantification of genes was performed using RT-qPCR and normalized to B2M. Mitochondrial biogenesis genes (a) cMYC, (b) TFAM, (c) NRF1,  and (d) NFE2L2. Mitochondrial fusion and fission genes (e) STOML2, (f) OPA1, (g) MFN1, (h) MFN2 and (i) DRP1. Significant differences were tested using one-way ANOVA (control compared to treatments) and Dunnett’s test for multiple comparisons (p < 0.05); * indicates p < 0.05, ** indicates p < 0.01, **** indicates p < 0.0001. Bars represent the mean expression ± SEM. The data shown represents n = 3 (STOML2, OPA1, TFAM), n = 4 (cMYC, NRF1, NFE2L2) and n = 5 (MFN1, MFN2, DRP1) biological repeats.
