In (a), total net CO2 emissions (ET) are in red, CO2 emissions from land use change (ELUC) are in green, CO2 emissions from forest and peat fires (EFire) are in blue, CO2 emissions from oxidative peat decomposition (EPD) are in orange, and CO2 uptake by biomass growth (Sink) is in light blue. ET was calculated by subtracting Sink from the sum of ELUC, EFire, and EPD. In (b), the Southern Oscillation Index (SOI)38 is shown in red bars along with burned areas. The total burned area (BA: blue) and burned peatland area (BAP: green) were detected from the NCM fire map.
