Top: Phase 2-specific cellular markers Th1, Th2 and M1 macrophages rise sharply at the critical time 1 = 90 days post infection in a B6D2F1 mouse model of LTBI (data from53). Bottom: Mathematical model reproduces the mouse model of latent tuberculosis infection described in (Arriaga et al.53); the simulated total bacterial loads remain below the limits of detection for almost all the course of the simulation, and the simulated critical time 1 for onset of adaptive immune responses (dotted vertical green line) coincides with the corresponding experimental value (dotted vertical orange line spanning from top to bottom panel) from53.
