Kidney cancer cell lines show various degrees of nucleotide excision repair deficiency by a functional assay monitoring the cells’ ability to remove 6–4-photoproducts. (A), Cells were irradiated by UV and 6–4-photoproducts were detected as described at 0 and 7 h. NER activity is expressed by the percent of 6–4-photoproducts removed by 7 h after UV irradiation. The H460 cell line and its engineered, ERCC4 deficient derivative was used as positive and negative controls.
