Schematic overview of the working model for sesame oil-induced osteoprotection. OVX rats were daily fed with either 0.25 mL/kg/day or 0.5 mL/kg/day of sesame oil. Increased serum aromatase levels may contribute to conversion of androgen to estrogen in sesame oil-treated OVX rats. Therefore, the increased serum PICP levels and decreased NTx represent an elevated bone formation/resorption ratio, which can lead to increased BMD in the femur, serum osteocalcin levels, and trabecular areas, thus preventing osteoporosis in OVX rats.
