Foreground shows regrowth atop a dead Porites colony as it resubmerged during the decades leading-in to the 2005 earthquake. (c) Summary of subsidence rates recorded by microatolls AFL, PWG and MZL25. AFL and PWG recorded increased subsidence during the decades immediately before the 1861 earthquake, promoting reef expansion.
