eIF2α is phosphorylated in response to iron deficiency. U-2 OS cells were cultured as described in Fig. 3. Proteins were extracted and analyzed by immunoblotting (see “Methods” section for details). Antibodies specific for total eIF2α and phosphorylated eIF2α (P-eIF2α) were used. The ratio of P-eIF2α/eIF2α is shown. Molecular weight size (kDa) is indicated on the right. A representative experiment of different independent biological replicates is shown.
