Immunohistochemical characterisation of inflammatory lesions in the continued EEX study. (A) Morphological examples of iNOS, CD4 and CD8 immunohistochemical staining of inflammatory lesions in CVB-EEX and CVB-SED animals. (B) Absolute cell count per high-power field (HPF) in inflammatory lesions of CVB-EEX and CVB-SED animals. If multiple lesions were considered for an animal, the counts were averaged, resulting in 1 datapoint for each animal studied. Group-by-group comparison was performed by means of the Mann–Whitney U test. Group size: CVB-SED: n = 8; CVB-EEX: n = 4.
