Age-related differences in extracellular matrix components. Sirius Red to quantify collagen and orcein stains to quantify elastin were performed to assess age related differences in extracellular matrix composition. (A) Sirius red total collagen stains were performed to assess regional differences on total amount of collagen. (B) Quantification of medial collagen deposition revealed a significant increase with aging when compared to young (p < 0.001). (C) Orcein stains were performed to visualize aging differences of elastin fibres fragmentation. (D) Quantification of the elastin fragmentation revealed no alterations with aging.
