(A) Liquid cultures of S. marcescens wild type with and without the addition of 0.1 MOI χ phage. After 18 h of incubation at 25 °C with shaking, 10 ml of each culture was pipetted into one half of a split 10 cm petri dish. Plates were imaged with a Cytiva IQ800 instrument. Left, phage was added during exponential phase growth (OD600 = 0.5); Right, phage was added during stationary phase growth (OD600 = 2.0). (B) Pigmentation in S. marcescens wild type cultures as A535 quantified via spectrophotometer 18 h after addition of 0.1 MOI of χ phage to cultures in exponential phase (OD600 = 0.5) or stationary phase (OD600 = 2.0). Both sets are compared to a control sample without the addition of phage. Data points are mean values consisting of n = 3 replicates. Error bars indicate standard deviation.
