Effect of bead beating time and microspheres diameter on the viability of microorganisms. The effect of bead beating time (30, 60 and 180 s) and the diameter of the microspheres (0.1 and 2.3 mm) on the viability of E. coli (a), S. aureus (b) and C. albicans (c) cultures was assessed. The viability was estimated by comparing the concentration of microorganisms after the homogenization protocol with the initial concentration of culture (≈ 108 CFU/mL). Each bar represents the mean of three experiments ± SD. Statistical differences were tested using two-way ANOVA (p < 0.05).
