Modulation of autophagy-related protein levels after BJe treatment in THP-1 cells. Cells were treated with BJe ranging from 0.5 to 2.5 mg/mL for 48 h before being processed for protein expression studies through Western blotting. (A) Representative immunoblots of three different experiments are shown as well as their densitometric analyses, on the right (B). Protein expression of Beclin-1, LC3 I and LC3 II was normalized against β-actin. Results are extrapolated as fold change with respect to unexposed cells and reported as mean ± SEM of values obtained in at least three independent experiments (N = 3 for Beclin-1 and N = 4 for LC3 I–II). *p < 0.05, **p < 0.01 and ***p < 0.001 versus control (CTRL).
