Effect on cell proliferation of BJe in THP-1 cells. Cells were exposed to 0.5, 1 and 2.5 mg/mL of BJe for 24, 48, 72 and 96 h. Cell proliferation was determined by incorporation of BrdU (A) and cell count (B) tests. Data are reported as percentages ± SEM of absorbance respect to values assessed in the untreated cultures (control, CTRL), while for cell count as number of cells (× 105). Three experiments were carried out independently by testing each concentration eight-fold (N = 24) for BrdU incorporation, while three experiments testing three replicates (N = 9) for cell count. **p < 0.01, ***p < 0.001 and ****p < 0.0001 versus control (CTRL).
