Table 1 MRSA lab strains and clinical isolates become susceptible to beta-lactam antibiotic cefazolin when grown in mammalian serum. Cefazolin and vancomycin minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) assays were performed on MRSA USA300 in Mueller Hinton Broth (MHB), Tryptic Soy Broth (TSB), and fetal bovine serum (FBS). Cefazolin and vancomycin MICs were measured for MRSA laboratory strains USA400 MW2 and USA300 LAC, as well as COL and USA200 MRSA252. A total of 22 MRSA clinical isolates were tested for cefazolin and vancomycin MIC90. Values reported are the drug MIC in µg/mL.
