Table 1 For a given number of plaquettes, the table presents the number of Pauli terms obtained when decomposing the Hamiltonian into a sum of products of Pauli matrices, as in Eq. (15), the number of native (IBM-Q) CNOT gates per Trotter step in the standard circuit implementation of unitary evolution of the Hamiltonian, and the number of remaining native (IBM Q) CNOT gates per Trotter step in the scaled-gate circuit implementation of the unitary evolution operator.
