From: A lectin produced by a Streptomyces species targets mammalian pancreatic acinar cells in mice and humans

Fig. 6

The mCherry-SHA targets human pancreatic acinar cells from donors with blood type B, but not from those with type A or O. Archived formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded human pancreas tissues were examined. Slides were triple stained with mCherry-SHA, CPA1, and KRT19. Representative photomicrographs from a donor of blood type B (A), type A (B), and type O (C) are shown. Insets in (A) show magnified images with various combinations of staining. (D) Summary of the 9 different human donor tissues examined in this study. pos. positive, neg. negative. (E) Representative brightfield images of mCherry-SHA (top panel) or mCherry staining (bottom panel), identified by anti-6×-His antibody and visualized by DAB (brown) and hematoxylin staining (blue). Bars = 100 μm. Islet regions are indicated by solid white (A–C) or black (E) lines. Images were obtained from a ZEISS LSM 880 confocal microscope (A–C) or Zeiss Observer II (E). Additional human donor characteristics are found in Table 2.
