The microvilli become compact and more regular in outline, and the sizes of the rhabdom increase depending on the age of the sandhoppers. (b) Enlarged TEM examples of the microvillar difference between 14-day-old and adult T. saltator. The white arrow indicates one of the gaps between adjacent microvillar membranes.
