A threshold is set using the average of inflow Bray-Curtis dissimilarity plus 3 times the standard deviation, following the approach of Favere et al.32. The Bray-Curtis dissimilarity that was assigned to a sample was calculated as the average of the Bray-Curtis dissimilarities between that sample and the inflow water samples of the same date.
